MY APPROACH

Synergies between agents of change within and across sectors foster innovation and increase their shared impact. 

Rather than focusing solely on a partnership's financial potential, I identify each partner's particular needs and expertise to design lasting win-win relationships. Through this approach, I develop more sustainable and impactful collaborations between actors and change-makers that scale their individual and shared impact.

PORTFOLIO SPOTLIGHT

In 2018, I designed and piloted a partnership strategy for the CSR department of a large, multi-billion dollar tech company in Silicon Valley. This strategy involved 50 NGOs, nonprofits, and higher education institutions, including Harvard University, the International Red Cross, Care.org, World Vision, and various UN organizations. 

The strategy identified new opportunities for impact by aligning the company's departments with the work of the above organizations to amplify the impact of partner engagements and create new value beyond that provided by the company's product. The strategy also provided a methodology to identify partners' needs in order to co-design mutually beneficial relationships that go beyond grant-making and corporate sponsorships.

The value generated by this project revealed a need for a full-time director-level position.

SOCIAL IMPACT MODEL OPTIMISATION

 

MY APPROACH

The challenges that the social sector works to solve are constantly evolving and extremely complex. Change-makers need to stay abreast of important trends and proactively adapt their models to ensure the sustainability of their impact.

Through a participatory approach that follows Human-Centered Design principles, I place your organization and your target population at the heart of my research and our collaboration. This ensures that your social impact model is well-aligned to achieve your objectives while staying true to your organization's mission and vision.

PORTFOLIO SPOTLIGHT

In 2015, as a USAID Global Development Fellow, I led an in-depth study on access, affordability, and dependability of household drinking water in Bangalore, India. This project was part of a research program that applies social and scientific innovation to complex sustainable development challenges.

I conducted over 100 individual and group interviews throughout the city to identify household and commercial needs and purchasing trends related to drinking water. These interviews identified available resources both at the local government and the private sector level (drinking water distributors). I presented this study to a group of researchers at Microsoft Research India to inform the design of their innovative products that tackle the lack of access to drinking water in Bangalore.

I delivered a comprehensive report that detailed my approaches and recommended social business models to address the issues identified. This report influenced various local social enterprise models.

EXTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS:
THOUGHT LEADERSHIP CAMPAIGNS

 

MY APPROACH

Change-makers acquire invaluable expertise while working to solve issues in the social sector. This expertise is rarely shared when communication strategies focus on "what we do" rather than "what we've learned".  Social sector organizations that can translate their expertise into thought leadership have the opportunity to not only be recognized as leaders in their sector but also to advance the collective work of their entire industry. 

I work with my clients to develop powerful external communication campaigns and strategies, often in partnership with other players in their sector, in order to amplify their voices and increase their influence and bring about lasting change towards their goals. 

COLLABORATION IDEAS

  • A study of your programs and facilitation of brainstorming workshops, to identify your areas of expertise and define your key messages

  • Writing of blog articles, press releases, advocacy tools and other materials to elevate your expertise

  • Organisation and facilitation of events and workshops with current and prospective partners that enable your sector to take bigger strides towards a greater goal by amplifying your common voice

PORTFOLIO SPOTLIGHT

In 2017, I designed and managed the annual Water Action Month campaign, launched in 2015 by End Water Poverty, a WaterAid initiative. This month-long campaign facilitated global action that brought together dozens of NGOs and grassroots organizations in service of clean drinking water and sanitation for all. 

Through this work, I interacted with nearly one hundred NGOs and local organizations in over 50 countries to support their advocacy work while simultaneously assessing the impact of the campaign. One of the most impactful activities I led was a series of five live webinars on a variety of themes related to drinking water access and sanitation in which over 200 spectators from more than 20 countries participated. These webinars showcased the expertise of multi-disciplinary stakeholders and provided a space for the exchange of best practices and available resources to bring about systematic change.

At the end of the campaign, I presented an impact evaluation of the campaign to highlight potential improvements to the End Water Poverty steering committee. I also created a best practices guide to ensure that the annual campaign's impact continues to grow. 

INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS:
CAMPAIGNS AND TRAININGS

 

MY APPROACH

Collaboration between departments within an organization is critical to long-term success. However, over time, silos naturally form within organizations of all types – private, public and social sector. In order to maximize an organization's impact, it becomes necessary to break down these silos and encourage innovation internally, by streamlining processes and sharing best practices.

Through a collaboration rooted in active listening techniques, I use design thinking methods to help my clients leverage internal leadership and optimize their operations from within their organization.

COLLABORATION IDEAS

  • A study of projects coupled with the facilitation of brainstorming workshops and individual interviews to identify existing silos and areas of improvement within your organization

  • Facilitation of reflective activities to align your mission, vision, and values of your organization

  • New tools and processes to streamline your operations and increase collaboration within departments of your organization, coupled with comprehensive training sessions to assist your teams through these transitions

PORTFOLIO SPOTLIGHT

In 2019, I designed a strategic plan for Baobab +, a social enterprise that offers solar home systems and digital products in four African countries, to streamline their activities across subsidiaries in Mali, Madagascar, Senegal, and the Ivory Coast.

This detailed action plan allows each subsidiary to leverage its unique areas of expertise and share best practices internally with the rest of the company. The expected result is an optimization of operations and processes that enables efficiency while still adapting the company's services to each of its four diverse, local cultural contexts.
